New Equipment that we have invested in – Air Polisher

A Game-Changer in Dental Hygiene

In the ever-evolving field of dentistry, the pursuit of enhanced patient care and comfort is paramount. One of the key innovations that have emerged in this pursuit is the UC500L Air Polisher and Scaler. This advanced device boasts an array of features designed to optimise dental hygiene procedures, making it an invaluable tool for dental practices.

The UC500L is a state-of-the-art dental instrument that combines two essential functions: air polishing and scaling. Air polishing utilises a stream of air, water, and specially formulated polishing powder to effectively remove dental plaque, stains, and biofilm from tooth surfaces. On the other hand, scaling involves the removal of tartar and calculus deposits, which are not possible to eliminate with traditional brushing alone.

Removing biofilm from teeth is an important aspect of maintaining oral hygiene, and air polishing can be an effective method for achieving this.

Gentle yet Effective: The air polishing mechanism is gentle on tooth enamel and soft tissue and it’s less abrasive than some manual cleaning methods, making it a gentler option for patients, especially those with sensitive gums. The specially designed polishing powders effectively break down stubborn stains while preserving the integrity of the tooth surface.

As well as being gentler on the gums and easier for a patient to tolerate, ultrasonic scalers save time and remove hard plaque that hand scalers simply cannot. Similarly, air polishing is more comfortable and quicker than traditional scaling.

Research has shown that air polishing is approximately one-third less time-consuming when compared with hand instrumentation and rubber cup polishing. The same study also found that using an air polisher can also cause less fatigue because there is no need to apply any pressure across dozens of surfaces, unlike with a rubber cup polisher.

Patients may still need to practice good oral hygiene practices at home, including brushing and flossing, to prevent the accumulation of biofilm and plaque between visits.

We have four dental hygienists at Holistic Dental Centre, who work on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Air polishing is an effective and gentle method for removing biofilm and enhancing oral hygiene. When combined with regular dental care, it can contribute to better oral health outcomes. If you’re considering this treatment, discuss it with your Dentist to determine if it’s right for you. We look forward to seeing you at an appointment soon.
